IIT Delhi Initiates Industry Funded Joint Ph.D Programme with National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish and offer a Joint Doctoral Degree Program (JDP).
The MoU has been jointly signed by Prof V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi and Prof. Mau-Chung Frank Chang, President, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan.
Under the MoU, an academic and student exchange will be developed through the JDP whereby students who successfully completes all the requirements of the program will be awarded a joint degree for the thesis by both institutions.
Both institutions also seek to work together and carry out joint research & academic activities in a mutually beneficial way and to look for synergies across the doctoral programs of each other.
Speaking about the Joint Doctoral Degree Program with NCTU, Prof V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IITD, said: “This is indeed an important milestone in IIT Delhi’s internationalization efforts. I hope that in next one or two years we will reach a triple-digit figure in terms of student enrolment under this Joint Doctoral Degree Program with NCTU. The target is to have over 200 joint Ph.D. students under this programme, with support from industries.”
Prof. Mau-Chung Frank Chang, President, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, said: “On the basis of a longlisting friendship through academic collaborations I firmly believe that a Joint Doctoral Degree Program, such as this one, will bring forth both institutes to another level of academic and international standards. The significance of this agreement sets an example for the future development of Taiwan and Indian academics in hopes of becoming a leading flagship among the higher educations in Asia. Through this program we will be able to enhance the mobility of scholars, nurture our talents and researches, with the best from both institutes to ensure quality education for future world leaders.
Under the JDP, students will be admitted at both institutions. The MoU signed between IIT Delhi and NCTU shall remain in force for five years. Thereafter, it shall renew itself in writing for successive periods of five years.
