University of Texas at Dallas: Comets, UTD Community Celebrate Colorful Return of Homecoming

Comet spirit soared as alumni and students celebrated UT Dallas’ 2022 Homecoming with a range of activities and contests Feb. 9-12.

Christy Chinn, a finance senior, was elected Homecoming queen, and Natasha Rahman, a mechanical engineering senior, was elected Homecoming king. The winner of the door decorating contest was Residence Hall Northwest.

The winners of the chalk art contest, which took place Feb. 9 at Chess Plaza, were PreProduction Collaborative for most spirited organization; information technology and management student Shwetal Malviya for individual best use of color; the Environmental Conservation Organization for most creative; electrical engineering graduate student Maxine Cabrasawan for the people’s choice; and arts, technology, and emerging communication junior Ana Villarreal for most spirited individual.

The parade began at noon Feb. 11 along Rutford Avenue and featured decorated golf carts and live music. The Bangladeshi Student Organization won the President’s Trophy; the Vietnamese Student Association won the Comet Cup; Delta Delta Delta won the Fraternity and Sorority Spirit Award; Residential Life won the Orange & Green Cup; and Nova won the Spirit Cup.

Homecoming 2022 also featured an up-all-night float-building party with music and food, a parade after-party, giveaways and a virtual pet promenade.

Although the Homecoming Nighttime 5K was canceled due to a power outage, Comets can still participate in the Homecoming Virtual 5K by running or walking their favorite 5K course during the month of March. Every registrant will be shipped a thank-you kit, and the first 50 will receive this year’s UTD Homecoming Nighttime 5K T-shirt.
