LETI: Uniting People with Love and Kindness: LETI Students at the Evening of Oriental Poetry
International students of St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” won awards at the 16th City Student Evening of Oriental Poetry.
On March 1, 16th City Student Evening of Oriental Poetry took place in the Petrov Concert Hall of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions. Students of 14 universities from 16 countries, including 4 LETI students, recited their poems and works of eastern poets. They accompanied performances with dances, songs, and theatrical performances.
Nishan Koirala, a first-year master’s student of the Faculty of Industrial Automation and Electrical Engineering at LETI from Nepal, and Nikesh Acharya, a student of ITMO, took third place with a joint performance of their poems in Russian and Nepali.
“Participating in oriental poetry evening gave me a chance to learn the different art and culture of different people living throughout the world. It is important to show our national culture as it is a unique national identity that has been carried on through history and should be preserved. This can easily be done through the means of art, and I strongly believe that it unites people with love and kindness.”
The jury awarded its special prize to Tchouta Ntchuisse Karyl Freedom, a first-year bachelor’s student of the Faculty of Information Measurement and Biotechnical Systems of LETI from Cameroon, who recited his poetry in French.
Aldaabool Nagham, a first-year master’s student of the Faculty of Information Measurement and Biotechnical Systems at LETI, made a dazzling performance combining poetry in Arabic and Russian languages and a dance.
“In the current climate of increasing restrictions, these kinds of events are much needed. On the one hand, they make it possible to distract from all the uncertainties for everyone, including international students. On the other hand, such events are the best way to develop tolerance and respect for different cultures and traditions, to teach people of different nationalities from different countries to understand and appreciate each other in a real environment. The good results of LETI students indicate that these qualities are of high importance to us, and our students know how to develop and show them. We will continue to help uncover the talents of our students and nurture their best traits!”
The annual event was founded by the Council of Rectors of St. Petersburg, the Congress of St. Petersburg Intellectuals, and the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions in 2006 to strengthen the friendship between nations through poetry.
