AMU Faculty Passes Away

 

Aligarh : Senior faculty member of the Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof Seema Saghir passed away after a brief illness at a New Delhi hospital on Monday.

“Prof Seema was a sincere teacher who helped so many students and made them walk in the right path. The university community shares the sorrow of her bereaved family and I wish all of us to find comfort in her memories. She will be deeply missed by friends, colleagues and students”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Extending deepest condolences, Prof Mohd Ali Jauhar (Chairman, Department of Urdu) said: “Unrivaled and inspirational, she was one of the best, and we are so fortunate to have her as a colleague. Prof Seema will forever be remembered in the highest regard”.

Over the arch of her life and career, Prof Seema, remained extremely focused and disciplined—she authored over 15 books and published scores of papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Prof Seema was recipient of many awards including the U P Urdu Academy Award (2004), U P Urdu Academy Award (2010), Bihar Urdu Academy Award (2011), U P Urdu Academy Award (2012), Urdu Adab Award by Hindi- Urdu Sahitya Award Committee U P (2013), Qurratul Ain Haider Award Bangalore (2014) and a LifeTime Achievement Award by U P Urdu Academy (2016).

She worked on many projects of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and UGG and was associated with the AMU Gazette and the Arts Faculty Journal. Urdu Fiction and Translation were her thrust areas.

The deceased is survived by husband, Prof Saghir Afrahim and daughter.
