IIM Kozhikode to host 5th HR SUMMIT on 17-18 August 2019
Kozhikode: Known as the God’s own campus, IIM Kozhikode is bringing together a group of esteemed professionals and business leaders as speakers for the 5th HR Summit which is to be held on 17th & 18th August 2019. With the overarching theme of ‘Bridging the Skill Gap between Management Education and Employment’, the summit is expected to address some of the burning topics associated with theme. The idea is to provide a platform for both the academia and professionals to come together and discuss about the evolution of new models of education & development.
The event will be inaugurated by IIMK Director, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, a thought leader who focused on honing the market driven skills by the students in order to lead the business. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Chatterjee said “Industry is about domain expertise, academia is about acquiring depth in a discipline. Industry thrives on quarterly performance and extrinsic rewards. Academic learning is timeless and rewards sought are intrinsic. In pursuit of relevance, industry lacks rigour of academic life. An institution of higher learning like IIM Kozhikode ought to lead the industry in the realm of ideas and not just be led by market forces. The gap between academia and industry can be bridged when rigour becomes the new face of relevance. In the knowledge and innovation economy IIMs and IITs are poised to lead the industry 4.0 that is unfolding before us.”
As per Prof. Manoranjan Dhal, the coordinator of the summit “India has 5500 business schools including the IIMs. However, industry body such as Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry (ASSOCHAM), claims only 7% of the pass outs are employable. This summit is an endeavor to identify and address the skill gap between management education and employment.”
The summit spread over the period of two days will feature several elite speakers such as Rajesh Hurkat (Head HR for Southeast Asia & India, Mattel Inc.), Rajeev Singh (COO & Business Head, Karvy Fintech), Satish Mohapatra (VP & Senior HRBP- ‘Smart Infrastructure’, Operating Company India at Siemens), Alok Chaturvedi (Director-Product, Estee Advisors), Neha Richharia (Director HR, Talent Management, Cognizant Digital Operations), Bijender Vats (Director, Human Resources, MSD-India) and Atul Mohan (HR Leader, Syngene International) will be gracing the event with their presence. The event will also see the participation of students from across the country. The topics will revolve around ways in which education can help in filling the skill gap in the job market. Specific topics will include industry expectations from management graduates, root causes for skill gaps, and possible contributions from industry in business schools across the country, thus providing a much-needed confluence between industry and management education.
