RDD meets Industrial Associations to assess skill requirements of JKs’ corporate sector

 

JAMMU: The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with district administration, today organized a meeting with representatives and members of Industrial Associations of Jammu district to assess skill requirements of the corporate sector so that the candidates enrolled under the ambitious Himayat programme can be trained in the market relevant trades.

While interacting with the participants through virtual mode, Commissioner Secretary, RDD, Mandeep Kaur, said that the meet was organized to understand the changing paradigms of the industrial needs and accordingly modify the training curriculum for the candidates so that maximum candidates get placed upon completion of their training. She added that it shall also provide a platform to ascertain the requirements of workforce of the industry, enabling the department draft training modules accordingly so that the Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) can train the candidates in the relevant trades which have demand in the market.

She added that the corporate sector of the UT has immense potential to provide job placement to the unemployed youth who are equipped with market relevant trades under the programme.

Chief Operating Officer, Himayat, Deepika K Kumari, also interacted with members of different associations and gave a detailed Power Point Presentation regarding the skill development, achievements of the scheme and other parameters covered under the scheme.

She informed that, so far, 3214 candidates have been enrolled, of which, 1831 have been trained and 624 placed where as training of 1383 is going on. She said that the department is running different training courses through 56 Project Implementing Agencies (PIA) under HIMAYAT.

HIMAYAT is a special initiative under DDU-GKY for unemployed youths (both urban & rural) of UT of J&K. It aims to provide jobs in the private sector to unemployed youth of J&K by equipping them with market relevant skills.

Among others, the meeting was attended by ADC L&O, ADC, ADM, General Manager, DIC Jammu, Deputy Secretary, RDD (Himayat), Deputy Director Employment, Jammu, Project Manager DIC, Jammu, President of Industrial Associations from Gangyal, Digiana and Akhnoor, President CCI Jammu, President Pharmaceutical Association, President Hotel Association Jammu, President Rice Mills Association Jammu, President Cricket Bat Association Jammu, President Plastic Manufacturing Unit Association Jammu, President, Flour Mill Association Jammu and other prominent industrialists.
