Gannon University: Gannon business students achieve global top 10 ranking in business strategy simulation
The Gannon University team of Juliana Ehman, Jared Fisher, Derrick Gernatt, Matt Krol and Deairra McClellan have obtained a top-10 world ranking in the GLO-BUS online business strategy simulation. There are 3,183 teams from 136 colleges/universities participating in the simulation worldwide. The students are all members of the business policy course, the Dahlkemper School of Business capstone course taught by George Couch, DHA, assistant professor of healthcare management and business administration.
The best-performing GLO-BUS companies are measured on four performance variables, overall score, earnings per share, return on equity and stock price. The top-scoring team was at Johnson and Wales University, with a composite score of 110. The Gannon University team was tied for 10th with a composite game-to-date score of 108, ahead of more than 3,100 other teams worldwide.
GLO-BUS is the world’s only truly international simulation where the focus is on competitive business strategy. GLO-BUS is an entirely online exercise where teams of students run a digital camera company in a head-to-head competition run by other class members. Company operations parallel those of actual digital camera companies. Just as in the real-world, companies compete in a global market arena, selling digital cameras in four geographic regions: Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Company managers make decisions relating to research and development, component usage, camera performance, product line breadth, production operations, workforce compensation, outsourcing, pricing, sales, marketing and finance. The challenge is to craft and execute a competitive strategy that results in respected brand image, keeps your company in contention for global market leadership, and produces good financial performance as measured by earnings per share, return on investment, stock price appreciation and credit rating.
The business policy course at Gannon University is a comprehensive capstone course requiring students to integrate previous analytical skills in analyzing corporate problems. The course concentrates on organizational strategy and policy and focuses on the responsibilities of senior management and the analysis of situations having a significant impact on the organization. The emphasis throughout the course is that of top management, and this emphasis takes an integrative, multi-functional perspective with emphasis on ethics and responsibility to society.
