University of São Paulo: Agribusiness fair in the interior should earn high even with an unfavorable scenario
Agrishow, the International Fair of Agricultural Technology in Action, returns from April 25th to 29th after two years paralyzed by the pandemic. The event, which takes place in Ribeirão Preto, is considered one of the largest in the sector in Latin America and receives 800 national and international brands, which exhibit everything from seeds and fertilizers to advanced technologies.
Even with the complex international scenario, due to the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis, a good turnover is expected from the fair’s business since the latest bulletin from the National Supply Company, released on March 10, brought data on production grain for the 2021/22 crop, which was estimated at 265.7 million tons, 10.3 million more than the previous crop.
For professor Marcos Fava Neves, from the Faculty of Economics, Administration and Accounting of Ribeirão Preto (FEA-RP) at USP, “Agrishow finds a very complex scenario in the international issue” with a geopolitical movement against globalization never seen before, which Fava Neves called “variables varying violently”.
And, in the domestic scenario, the professor says that, despite the prices of agricultural products being good, production costs are very high, which is worrying, because “prices will fall faster than costs”, creating a scenario of risk for the Brazilian farmer. Fava Neves explains that the cost refers to the expense that represents the entire manufacturing process and the price refers to how much that product or service is worth in monetary terms.
Fair should not be impacted by the global crisis
Even in the face of these problems, Fava Neves believes that the fair should not suffer a negative impact since the farmer is experiencing a moment of capitalization for the last two harvests, so “Agrishow should sell and earn a lot”, he evaluates.
According to the president of Agrishow, Francisco Matturro, who is also the executive secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of the State of São Paulo, in the last three years, the agribusiness sector has continued to produce and develop and, consequently, will have many news to present at the 2022 fair.
connectivity
Among the news expected for the fair, Matturro mentions those that will be presented by the connectivity area, which has advanced the most in recent years. “Three years, in terms of connectivity, is an eternity”, insists the president of Agrishow, noting that in this period technologies linked to intelligence centers and operations that boost the Brazilian agricultural sector were created.
And on the subject, Matturro believes that, as one of the biggest problems in agriculture today, the lack of connection in the field can gain prominence. “We still have deficits in antenna points to make the total connection, but I believe that São Paulo will accelerate the development of the theme quickly”, he comments.
