CUG: CUG Alumnus Makes 5th Ascent to Summit of Mount Everest

According to CCTV, Chinese scientific researchers on Wednesday established an automatic meteorological monitoring station at an altitude of over 8,800 meters on May 4, making it the world’s highest of its kind. Also on May 4, 13 members of the expedition team reached the summit of Mount Everest. At the summit, the squad measured the thickness of the ice and snow using high-accuracy radar for the first time.

The team leader isDechen Ngodrup, who received his master’s degree at CUG in 2016. He told CGTN, “This time, China is conducting the second scientific research on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and I’m proud to be one of the members carrying out missions.” This is his 5th summit of Mount Everest after 10 years.

Dechen Ngodrup reached the summit of Mount Everest for the first time in 2006 when he was 18 years old. In 2008, he took part in the mission of bring the Olympic torch to the world’s summit with other 18 torch bearers.

From 2012 to 2016, Dechen Ngodrup conquered the world’s highest peaks on all seven continents and trekked to the North and South Poles with CUG mountaineering team.
