Piramal Art Foundation and Piramal Foundation to train over 2000 school children in music

Today, Technology, phones and computers have reconfigured the way young students are conducting their lives leaving very little time for music. Piramal Art Foundation and Piramal Foundation have engaged with Chennai-based LEAP Foundation to drive a special music workshop for children, titled the Spotlighters Series.
The workshop will take place over one week starting October 7 to October 12 and will conclude with an open public session. The aim of this activity is to create awareness of diverse musical cultures amongst the 2000+ children who will participate in the workshop. It serves to educate students and members of the community by conducting workshops, lectures and recitals. Through this initiative, Piramal Musuem of Art, along with the Piramal Foundation, has reached out to State school students from Class 4 to 7.
In the series, titled Spotlighters, eight renowned musicians from the Leap Foundation will run the workshop which will provide a platform for children, exposing them to unique musical forms across India namely folk, film, Sufi, Nirguni, or Indian Classical as well as Western and Middle Eastern traditions. The musicians include Anuradha Kuber (vocal), Rohit Gadkar (percussion), Dhananjay Bongane (percussion), Saumitra Kshirsagar (harmonium), Sachin Mannath (Vocal), Srinivas Krishnan (artistic director), Sudhir Tekale (keyboard), and Yadu Krishnan (Vocal).
Music compositions in different languages will be selected over the six days allowing children to develop flexibility, agility and adaptability through a choir. Different languages (Hindi, Marathi, English) will be celebrated allowing children to develop flexibility, agility and adaptability through a choir. The project will allow each student to enhance their attention skills.
The session is opened to the public (parents, teachers, general audiences and children). There is one Open Session on Saturday (Oct 12), which will allow for both, the parent and child, and the public to participate in the choral sessions. These sessions will take place at Piramal Ananta at Agastya Corporate Park in Kurla.
We believe that the use of any creative medium either art or music facilitates transformation within an individual. Through this initiative, our focus is to enable holistic development of children and provide a deeper understanding about various cultures. The choir format that we have chosen will allow students to work as a team, enhances their attention span, sense of confidence by being” present actively with the team, rather than being concerned about “trying” to sing alone. We are excited to launch this unique initiative and provide a common platform for children across the city to come together.
