Week-long Mahotsav ahead of Yoga Day at AMU

 

Aligarh : Ahead of the International Yoga Day on June 21; faculty members and students of the Department of Physical Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) got together to celebrate the ancient Indian art of healthy living with a week-long Yoga Mahotsav-2022 (May 20 to 26) in which a Yoga awareness campaign, a practical session, a webinar, a general discussion, a workshop and group Yoga sessions are scheduled to take place.

The programme is taking place in partnership with the Department of Physical Education and the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the Ministry of Ayush.

Inaugurating the seven-day Mahotsav, the Chief Guest, Prof Asmer Beg (Department of Political Science) underlined that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has not only encouraged the practice of Yoga across the country, but he has also familiarised people all over the world with far-reaching health benefits of Yoga.

“As a result, the United Nations designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga,” he added.

Prof Asmer emphasised: Yoga is a way of holistic health and its celebration is an opportunity for a mass movement to promote health, wellbeing, and peace across the globe.

“Yoga is a comprehensive and integrative science of life that deals with the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness of the person and society”, said Prof Syed Tariq Murtaza (Chairman, Department of Physical Education) adding that it is an integrated method of self-transformation with immense health advantages.

Organising secretary of the programme, Prof Rajendra Singh said that daily Yoga helps him to minimise chances of injury and relaxes his mind by lowering the stress levels.

He also conducted the mass Yoga session with Dr Naushad Waheed Ansari.

Dr Merajuddin Faridi hosted the programme.
