Ural Federal University: University Identifies Areas of Interest in Mongolia

Increasing the level of the Russian language among Mongolian students is one of the main goals of the cooperation between the Ural Federal University and the universities of the republic, according to Sergey Kortov, First Vice-rector of the Ural Federal University. This was the central topic of the talks with universities in Ulaanbaatar and representatives of the Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science.

“The language barrier reduces the quality and effectiveness of our cooperation in training personnel for industry in Mongolia. This is especially important given the demand for Mongolian students to get practical training at our industrial enterprises,” Kortov said.

Yana Vysotskaya, Director of the Division of International Educational Programs, spoke about the experience of opening Russian language centers in Egypt and China, where UrFU professors teach.

“Language competencies enhance learning opportunities. Lecturers in our Preparatory Department for Foreign Students have sufficient experience and developed techniques to ensure that students not only improve their language skills, but also master professional terms for their specialties,” Vysotskaya said.

The agreements reached at the National University of Mongolia, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the Mongolian State University of Education by the Ural Federal University delegation were supported by the Mongolian Ministry of Education and Science.

“The need to train engineers for new industrial enterprises opens up new opportunities for us. Mongolia’s legislative changes and the government’s post-pandemic economic recovery policy are aimed at a technological breakthrough and give us a chance to create joint innovation centers and student startups. One of the main tasks of Mongolia in the near future is digital transformation, so we are focused on cooperation in digital technology and open education,” said Tumurpurev Namnam, rector of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.

The areas of cooperation discussed with Mongolian University of Science and Technology include advanced training for Mongolian specialists in the operation, adjustment, and repair of nuclear power plants, Master’s training in mechanical engineering and thermal power engineering, and training for Bachelor’s Degrees in psychology and launching network educational programs in psychological and organizational counseling and cognitive neurosciences.
