KATHUA : Department of Environmental Sciences, Government Degree College Mahanpur, in collaboration with Eco-club and Shikshit Bharat unit of the college celebrated ‘International Biodiversity Day’ 2022, under the supervision of the College Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul.

The theme of this year is “Building a shared future for all Life” fitting with the context of ongoing United Nations decade on restoration, which highlights that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges.

On the occasion, HOD Environmental Sciences Prof. Arvind Kumar, in his speech, highlighted the significance of Biodiversity, its value, threats and various measures to conserve biodiversity.

The Principal of the college Dr. Rakesh K. Koul, in his address, motivated the students about the conservation of Biodiversity and to act as ambassadors to disseminate the message of biodiversity conservation to all. He appreciated the students and staff for this effort and addressed that such type of activities develop a sense of belongingness among the students towards our winged friends and increase the chances to observe our avian diversity and their fun behavior

As the mercury level is rising and scorching heat is hydrating humans, birds and small animals like squirrels, monkeys etc so the group of students and staff members marked the day by putting up earthen water bowls in the campus.
