Griffith University: Griffith swimmers flood the World champs and Commonwealth Games squads
Incredible performances at the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships have secured places for 18 Griffith University student athletes and members of the Griffith swim team on the Australian Commonwealth Games team for Birmingham in July.

16 Griffith swimmers have also been named on the 2022 FINA World Championships team ahead of the event in Budapest next month.
Griffith High Performance Swimming Squad coaches Michael Bohl and Janelle Pallister will lead the Commonwealth Games team, with ‘Bohly’, as his swimmers call him, to travel with and coach the Dolphins World Championship team in Budapest.
Griffith Sports College Director Naomi McCarthy OAM said the Australian Swimming Championships performances in Adelaide were yet another reminder of how formidable Griffith swimmers are, and said that while a few key names made more of a splash, all their efforts deserved respect.

“Griffith University has an incredible depth of swimming talent, led by the likes of dual Olympian Emma McKeon and Tokyo Olympian Zac Stubblety-Cook but bolstered by the return of Shayna Jack and the emergence of Cody Simpson, which captured global attention,” she said.
“Zac achieved a new world record in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke in Adelaide while Chelsea Hodges also nabbed a new Australian record in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke.
“Our Griffith student athletes and hard-working members of the Griffith High Performance Swim Squad are focused on representing themselves, the University and their country in style over the next few months and it’s a very exciting time for all swimming fans.”
“We expect to see some stellar performances at the upcoming World Championships and can’t wait to see them in action in Birmingham after that.
“Griffith is proud to support these athletes on this path and we’re doing whatever we can to ensure they are able to fulfil the demands of elite sport and competition with their studies.”
