Siberian Federal University: SibFU opens a Digital Department
Russian universities launch recruitment of students for digital departments in the coming September. More than 385 thousand people are expected to graduate from digital departments by the end of 2025. The project is being implemented on the basis of 115 universities, both participating and just going to participate in the Priority 2030 program. The universities will offer 300 educational programs for students; training starts in September 2022.
According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, more than 80 thousand young people will enter the digital departments and get additional IT qualifications already this year.
“Each university develops educational programs for additional professional retraining. In total, more than 300 of them will be launched on the basis of digital departments, for instance, a developer of digital products, web applications, administration of domestic operating systems and many others. The number of digital departments will expand. They will be opened at universities that will join the Priority 2030 program,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister.
Students will have to undergo a comprehensive assessment of the development of digital competencies in the learning process. For this purpose, an assessment center has been formed on the basis of Innopolis University. Students will be offered tests and case studies in accordance with the subject of their professional retraining programs. Their results will allow assessing the level students’ digital competencies upon graduation from the digital departments.
Siberian Federal University will also open a digital department. According to the head of the Centre of Continuing Education Elena Moshkina, the digital department implies the acquisition of IT competencies by students of almost all areas of training and degree programs of the university.
“IT students will be able to expand their knowledge, and those who study in fundamentally different degree programs will be able to gain basic knowledge sufficient to successfully start working in this sector of the economy. Today we can announce the opening of three IT programs,” said Ms Moshkina.
