NSS Unit GDC Kathua organize Cyclothone to mark World Bicycle Day
KATHUA: A bicycle rally was organized today by NSS Units of Government Degree College Kathua to celebrate the World Bicycle day.
The College Principal, Prof Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia flagged off the rally from the College Campus in the presence of the other staff members.
The Cycle Rally passed through Shaheedi Chowk, Captain Sunil Chowk, Dream Park and culminated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park near DC Office Kathua.
The motive behind organising the rally was to highlight the advantages of cycling.
Principal Prof Sumanesh Singh Jasrotia, in his address to the volunteers and cyclists before flagging off the rally, elaborated on the history of the Bicycle. “Bicycle was one of the oldest means of transport and a bicycle continues to be in use throughout the globe. From kids to the elderly, cycling offers fun, as well as health benefits for all,” he added.
NSS PO Prof Manmohan Singh said that vehicular pollution was a big threat to the environment and using Bicycles as transport offers the best solution.
Highlighting the advantages of cycling and promoting the use of bicycles, June 3rd is observed as World Bicycle Day. The day is aimed at making people more active through simple activities, including cycling.
Senior faculty members Prof Raj Kiran Sharma, Prof Romila Guleria, Prof Seema Malpotra, Prof Jaswinder Singh, Prof Rakesh Jasrotia, Prof Ritu Bhagat also congratulated NSS volunteers for organizing this event.
