Tokyo Institute of Technology: Italian Republic Ambassador Gianluigi Benedetti Visits Tokyo Tech
Italian Ambassador to Japan Gianluigi Benedetti visited Tokyo Tech with Enrico Traversa, the Science & Technology Counselor of the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo on April 26, 2022. They visited the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI)– a research institute established in 2012 under the MEXTs WPI program that aims to become a world-class research center – and exchanged views with Director Yasuhito Sekine, Professor John William Hernlund and others.
Afterwards, Ambassador Benedetti and Counselor Traversa visited President Kazuya Masu in his office, where they were welcomed along with Executive Vice President for Institute Strategy and Provost Isao Sato, Executive Vice President for Research Osamu Watanabe, and Vice President for International Affairs Nobuhiro Hayashi.
President Masu gave an overview of Tokyo Tech and introduced “DLab”; Laboratory for Design of Social Innovation in Global Networks, one of its unique initiatives. Ambassador Benedetti expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit Tokyo Tech, and everyone exchanged views on the possibilities of cooperation in various fields, including collaboration with industry in both Japan and Italy, for a sustainable future post COVID-19.
