Ural Federal University: Postgraduate Students of the University Won Prizes at the All-Russian Engineering Contest

The finals of the All-Russian Engineering Contest 2021/22 took place in Moscow. Out of 332 authors of engineering projects and engineering developments an expert commission selected 59 winners and 75 runners-up. Postgraduate students of Ural Federal University also performed successfully in the competition.

Elena Butakova won the final in the field of new materials and construction methods. Another Ural Federal University representative, Aleksey Smolentsev, was a medalist in the same field.

“At the contest I presented my scientific report (scientific qualification work in postgraduate school) dedicated to the development of a new material for welding high-strength medium-alloyed steels. The work is related to improving the structural strength of welded joints for special purpose products,” said Aleksey.

Throughout the competition its participants demonstrated not only the depth of knowledge, but also uncommon thinking, originality and complex approach in solving non-standard tasks. Experts from industry-leading companies, leading universities and scientific organizations of the country highly appreciated the potential of the finalists, who in the future will become the elite of the engineering school of Russia.
