Craftsmanship training programme held at University Women’s Polytechnic
Aligarh : A two-day hands- on-training programme was held at University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in collaboration with adhesives manufacturing company, Pidilite.
Dr Salma Shaheen, (Principal, University Women’s Polytechnic and Programme Convener) informed that in the programme, participants nurtured their innate inventiveness by creating wallpapered vessels, woven coasters, hand-dyed napkins, paper flowers, dip-dyed candles, caned vases, silk thread bangles, earrings, necklaces and other creative and original items. They were trained to upgrade artistry skill levels for producing crafts with basic supplies and daily items.
Yashoda bagged the first prize and Valia and Anam shared the second spot in the, ‘Creative Hours’ workshop in which a total of 45 students from courses as Diploma Costume Design and Dress Making Section and Diploma in Secretarial Practice participated connecting creativity with craftsmanship to produce over 200 innovative crafts.
The resource person, Shahana Anjum (Expert teacher, Pidilite) demonstrated different tools and techniques to yield incredible results in craftsmanship.
She explained how to use leather patches, silk thread jewellery, marble texture and free hand painting for creating innovative articles.
Dr Sheeba Manzoor (Co-Convener) delivered the welcome address; while Sadia Naim (Coordinator), Fauzia Khan (Co-Convener) and Ikra Salim (Organising Secretary) conducted the inaugural function and coordinated the sessions stretched for two days.
