UNESCO launches the Brazilian Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities Portal
The portal of UNESCO’s Brazilian Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities was launched in an online joint event with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The platform allows municipalities members of the Coalition to exchange knowledge, experiences and good practices to make cities more inclusive and sustainable based on the guidelines of global development and human rights agendas. The website also gathers information on all UNESCO city networks, including Creative Cities, Learning Cities, World Heritage Cities, Information and Media Literate Cities, Smart Cities, Resilient Cities, Cities and Water Management and Cities for Ocean Culture.
The Brazilian Coalition is one of the regional and national arms of UNESCO’s International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities (ICCAR). Its portal allows the exchange of experiences and good practices between municipalities on policies and actions that promote sustainable urban development and human rights. In addition, participating cities commit to implementing the UNESCO Ten-Point Plan of Action against racism, discrimination and xenophobia.
The Brazilian Coalition is open for new municipalities to join. Upon becoming a member, the local government commits to integrating the 10-Point Action Plan into local public policies and strategies, adapting them to the local reality and involving civil society in its implementation.
The Municipality of Francisco Morato (SP) will be responsible for mobilizing Brazilian municipalities to join the Coalition and promote inclusive policies that combat all types of discrimination.
