Flinders University: International award a mark of Flinders’ global outlook
Rankings agency Quacquarelli Symonds has named Flinders University amongst a select group of world universities excelling in internationalisation in its inaugural Certificates of Recognition awards.
The new suite of QS awards, revealed for the first time at the EduData summit in New York, are assigned in four categories: graduate employability, most improved university, QS engagement and internationalisation.
Flinders University President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling says he is delighted that Flinders has been recognised as amongst the world’s best.
‘We are a genuinely global institution committed to excellence and inclusion in research and education. We have been steadfast in our determination to attract and foster talent from around the world, be it in our diverse student cohort or our inspired researchers.
‘We made incredible efforts to support our international students during the COVID pandemic, to support their continuity of education even if they couldn’t join us onshore in Australia. And for those who were with us in Australia unable to return home we provided extra support – financial, academic and personal – to sustain them at that challenging time.
‘The QS award further reaffirms our success in cultivating our world research outlook and sets us apart as a robust and progressive university that is leading the way in growing international networks and attracting high calibre talent from across the globe.
‘We are reinforcing our research and education excellence with a new city campus and a world class health and medical research facility at our main campus at Bedford Park, which will be followed soon by more student accommodation and additional research capacity – it underscores our determination to be a magnet for the world’s best and brightest minds.
‘There are tens of thousands of universities worldwide and Flinders is one of 26 universities named in the awards, and one of just four awarded in this category’, Professor Stirling says.
The awards coincide with the announcement of the QS 2023 rankings, which have been dynamic with considerable movement compared to many years. Like many Australian universities Flinders University has eased slightly in the overall ranking but maintained a solid performance at 425, comfortably within the world’s top 500.
