FOCUS ON OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF GIRL STUDENTS, BHU LAUNCHES NEW INITIATIVES FOR MAHILA MAHAVIDYALAYA

VARANASI : With an aim to nurture and develop the leadership and life skills of students of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the constituent college of Banaras Hindu University, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has constituted the ‘Student Leadership and Life Skills Development Initiative Committee’.  The committee headed by Prof. Lalita Vatta, Department of Home Science, MMV, will prepare a strategy and implement activities to develop soft skills, social skills, personal and professional skills in the students. It will also liaison with external and internal resource persons/facilitators/mentors for conducting workshops, talks, and events on various aspects of leadership, emotional intelligence, resilience & professional skills. The committee will engage with students to help them develop activities aimed at achieving their personal and professional goals. The Vice Chancellor has also constituted a committee of faculty members of Mahila Mahavidyalaya to support, facilitate and guide the girl students in order to ensure their overall well-being. The committee called the ‘Student Well-Being Initiative’ will work for the academic, psychological, emotional, physical and mental well-being of students and take measures to address issues, if any, being faced by students. The committee will help students navigate life challenges, resolve psychological concerns and develop a life-long orientation towards resilience and mental wellness through formal and informal means, and by conducting individual and group meetings/activities. Prof. Nishat Afroz, Psychology Section, MMV, has been named the Coordinator of the committee.

          An advisory council headed by Principal, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Prof. Inu Mehta, has also been formed to assist and provide inputs to these initiatives.

The initiatives are in line with Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain’s commitment of taking all possible measures for the overall welfare and development of girl students of BHU. He has also time and again underlined the need to support and facilitate Mahila Mahavidyalaya in realizing its full potential.
