Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and OP Jindal Global University establish dual degree partnership

The partnership was marked by a visit to OP Jindal Global University by Associate Professor Alexander Bukh, Associate Dean (International) for Wellington’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Students will undertake the first two years of a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs at OP Jindal Global University before transferring to Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Bachelor of Arts with a major in either Political Science or International Relations. On completion of both parts of the programme, students will be awarded a Bachelor’s degree from each university.

While the University has established a number of partnerships in India, the pathway with OP Jindal Global University marks the first dual degree programme established for Indian students.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington on dual degree programmes for our undergraduate and graduate students. New Zealand has extraordinarily high-quality academic standards and there is a rising demand among students in India to get the Kiwi experience and add to their knowledge and qualifications,” says Dr Sreeram Chaulia, Dean of the Jindal School of International Affairs.

“The mobility of students from our institution to Wellington will hopefully start a trend of more young Indians choosing New Zealand as a destination for pursuing higher studies and advanced research-oriented degrees.”

OP Jindal Global University is recognised as an Institute of Eminence by the Government of India and is ranked as the best private university in India in the current QS rankings. It has twelve schools offering more than 50 programmes from undergraduate to PhD level.

With its strategic location as Wellington’s University and its global civic university model, Te Herenga Waka―Victoria University of Wellington offers students exposure to its capital city connections, encompassing strong and unique links to government agencies and departments, business, research organisations, cultural and environmental organisations, and the city’s diplomatic community.

The Wellington Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is ranked second in New Zealand and 76th in the world for Arts and Humanities (2022 QS World University Rankings).

“Our university is well placed to offer transferring students a world-class education and to offer them a wealth of opportunities arising from our vibrant capital city connections with partners in the public and private sector. This will be a great addition to the studies they have undertaken at OP Jindal Global University,” says Acting Dean of the Faculty, Professor Simon Mackenzie.

Associate Professor Alexander Bukh says, “What I saw during my brief visit to OPJGU was a young and vibrant university with dedicated staff and highly capable students. I am looking forward to welcoming OP Jindal Global University students to our campus and am certain the current dual degree agreement is only the first step in cooperation between our institutions.”
