Aligarh Muslim University gears up for Independence Day

Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is all geared up to celebrate Independence Day on August 15 (Monday) at the Strachey Hall, befitting the Nation-wide, ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ observations with much grandeur, gaiety, fervour and enthusiasm.

The programme overleaf of the Registrar Office stated: “The university students and staff members will take seats in front of the Strachey Hall building at 9 am. AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor will hoist the National Flag at 9: 11 am after his arrival at 9: 10 am”.

“The Guard of Honour by NCC Senior Division Cadets is scheduled at 9:15 am followed by the Independence Day address of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor at 9: 20 am. After Coffee and refreshments at the Lawns of Sir Syed Hall beginning from 9: 30 am, Prof Mansoor will plant tree saplings at the Sir Syed Hall (South) and the Sir Syed Hall (North) at 10 am”.

Later at the Maulana Azad (MA) Library, the Vice Chancellor will be the Chief Guest for the inaugural function of the picture and books gallery on ‘Contribution of AMU to the Freedom Movement of India’.

The M A Library programme to mark ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ will begin at 11 am, said Prof Nishat Fatima (AMU Librarian and Programme Convener).

The Department of Urdu is also organising an All India Mushaira (Poetic Symposium) on the eve of the Independence Day. It will be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor on August 14 at 8 pm in the University Polytechnic Auditorium and according to Prof Mohammad Ali Jauhar (Chairman, Department of Urdu), “Many prominent poets of the Country will participate”.

Meanwhile, various important points and roads of the university have been decorated with National Flags to observe the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
