University of Texas at Austin: A Unique Approach to Brain Health

What starts here helps people live their best lives. Thanks to a world-changing $50 million gift from Jim (BBA ’68, MBA ‘69) and Miriam Mulva and the Mulva Family Foundation, individuals and families facing Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, bipolar disorder and other neurodegenerative disorders can find the care they need in one unique facility: UT Health Austin’s James J. and Miriam B. Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences.
What makes the clinic so special is its interprofessional approach to brain health, which brings together experts in neurology, psychiatry and neurosurgery to provide total patient care.

“The gift from the Mulvas was critical for allowing the development of interprofessional teams to take care of the whole person,” says Dr. Robin Hilsabeck, director of the clinic’s Comprehensive Memory Center. “Traditionally people have to go from one specialist to another. This gift has allowed us to all be under the same roof and offer care in one place together.”

Generous support from donors like the Mulvas makes it possible for UT to develop and sustain innovations in health care, combining research and its practical applications to improve patients’ quality of life.
