AMU faculty presents paper on ‘perpendicular mini plate osteosynthesis’

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) keeps up with the growing importance of interdisciplinary work being carried out in the world’s best universities not only by reforming study and course modules, but even with the way, the faculty members are presenting papers.

Dr G S Hashmi, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Z A Dental College (ZADC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at the 44th Annual Conference of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India 2019 in Bangalore presented a scientific research paper on ‘perpendicular mini plate osteosynthesis’, a newly introduced technique in India used for treating Mandibular fracture (fracture of jaw) with the help of a Gnathometer, developed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, AMU.

He delineated management of Mandibular fracture and curved mini plates at the inferior border of the jawbone, while demonstrating the evaluation of various types of forces acting on the jaw with the Gnathometer.

Dr Hashmi also used ‘Finite Analysis Model’ developed by the Division of Ergonomics, Department of Mechanical Engineering to compare various mechanical forces at different places of the jaw during post-operative periods.

Dr Hashmi also visited the operation theatre of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore to observe various reconstruction procedures for management of oral cancers.
