Ural Federal University: University to Guide International Students to Museums
Ural Federal University intends to increase the amount of international students visiting museum and exhibition sites in the region: the university has agreements with the oldest, newest, and main museums of the Ural capital – the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, the Multimedia History Park “Russia – My History” and the History Museum of Ekaterinburg.
“By 2030 we intend to increase the number of our international students by one and a half to two times from 13% of the total number of students to 20%, this is stated in the University development program. We want to introduce everyone to the rich cultural life that Ekaterinburg is famous for, and introduce them to the culture and history of the Urals and Russia,” said Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU.
According to the Head of the university, the “Campus” student support program announced by Evgeny Kuyvashev, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region and member of the Ural Federal University Supervisory Board, will also help solve this issue. Roman Dorokhin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the region, emphasized that the program does not differentiate between Russian students and those who come from abroad. He also noted that UrFU is a strategic partner of the Ministry in all endeavors and the largest educational and research center in the country.
“Ekaterinburg has the potential to become the student capital of Russia. We have great infrastructure plans, supported by federal and regional authorities and business. For example, a modern sports and student campus is being built in the Novokoltsovsky District, and the construction of a world-class campus will soon begin. This will attract even more international applicants to us,” believes Koksharov.
Sergey Tushin, Ural Federal University Vice-Rector for International Relations, adds that the university now has 4,300 students from 101 countries. One of the university’s main goals is to make sure that its graduates return to their homeland as friends of Russia: they know not only the language, but also the history and culture. Dmitry Loevsky, Vice-Rector for Educational Work, also spoke about this.
Heads of museums Natalya Proshina, Sergey Kamensky and Aleksandr Emelyanov, who signed the documents on August 17, paid special attention to the plans to intensify cooperation that has taken shape yesterday, but has been ongoing for a long time. For example, the “Russia – My History” History Park can be proud of one of the best regional content due to the students and professors of the Faculty of History of Ural Federal University.
The Museum of Local Lore is ready to provide sites of 18 branches in the Sverdlovsk region and to expand cooperation with the university with other regions, and the Museum of the History of Ekaterinburg intends to work with the university on a project basis in the year of the 300th anniversary of Ekaterinburg.
