University of São Paulo: Early Music Ensemble will perform at Cidade Universitária
On the 13th, Tuesday, at 12:30, the USP Early Music Ensemble will perform at the Sala Villa-Lobos of the Brasiliana Guita e José Mindlin Library (BBM) at USP, in Cidade Universitária, in São Paulo. The group is made up of musicians specializing in historical instruments and, in their concerts, seeks to reproduce the works as they were at the time they were originally presented. The ensemble is directed by conductor William Coelho. The concert repertoire is yet to be defined.
In its 17th year of activity, the Ensemble of Early Music at USP is dedicated to musicological research and performances of compositions from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries . by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (2017), the opera L’Orfeo , by Claudio Monteverdi, in 2005, the divertissement Les Arts Réunis , by Jean-Baptiste Lully, in partnership with the baroque ballet company Mercurius, in 2011, and a series of concerts dedicated to Brazilian colonial music, with the Audi Coelum choir and narration by actress Fernanda Montenegro, under the general direction of Roberto Rodrigues, in 2014, among others.

The USP International Music Series (SIM-USP) was conceived in 2019 as an initiative of the School of Communications and Arts (ECA), in partnership with the Dean of Culture and University Extension and the Biblioteca Brasiliana Guita and José Mindlin ( BBM), all from USP. The concerts are supported by embassies, consulates and cultural institutes, with the pianist Eduardo Monteiro and the clarinetist Mônica Lucas as curators.
The series is distinguished by combining academic research and artistic work: the concerts are accompanied by introductory mini-lectures and masterclasses for students from the city’s universities and music schools. The program includes renowned international artists consolidated on the world stage, playing in partnership with expressive Brazilian musicians.
