National capital to witness Mirza Ghalib Festival
New Delhi: Bhartiya Sangeet Sadan & Ghalib Memorial Movement with the support of Sahitya Kala Parishad Delhi Govt is going to organize Mirza Ghalib Festival from December 27 to 29, 2019. The aim behind organizing this three days grand event is to celebrate his life and work on his 150th Death Anniversary.
27th December, 2019, 6:30pm Mushaira Dedicated to Ghalib where eminent poets will participate in Death Anniversary of Ghalib at India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. On 28th December, 2019, 6:30pm, Cultural Dance Programme by Dr. Uma Sharma & group based on Ghalib’s poetry followed by Discussion on Ghalib by Shri Pavan K Verma with Javed Akhtar or Gulzar at India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The last day of the event 29th December, 2019, 5pm offering of Chadar at Ghalib’s Mazaar, Nizamuddin followed by Ghazals based on Ghalib.
Speaking on the same Dr Uma Sharma said, “Mirza Ghalib started composing poetry at the age of 11. His first language was Urdu, but Persian and Turkish were also spoken at home. He received an education in Persian and Arabic at a young age. During Ghalib’s period, the words “Hindi” and Urdu” were synonyms (see Hindi–Urdu controversy).
