Nelson Mandela University: Senegalese FIFA consultant presents at Mandela/FIFA/CIES 15th edition Sport Management Programme
One of the highlights of the 15th edition of the Mandela/FIFA/CIES Executive Sport Management programme block week was the presentation of former Senegal women’s basketball league player and FIFA consultant, Fatou-Binetou Ba.
Ms Ba is the Deputy General Director of the “Académie Génération Foot” in Dakar, Senegal, and spoke about their work and the opportunities and challenges that the creation and successful development of such an organisation represents.
Back to its familiar “block release” format, after two years of COVID-19-enforced online teaching, it was an absolute pleasure to be able to connect and interact in-person with the new group of 25 students starting on 5 September, says Human Movement Science’s Vernon Oosthuizen.
The students attending the programme in the Human Movement Science Building on South Campus are from all over South Africa as well as from other countries, including Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, and Tanzania. They represent a broad range of sport codes and professions, such as government officials, managers, marketing managers, financial managers, lecturers, CEOs, MDs, a medical doctor and a SuperSport producer.
The 15th edition was officially opened by Mandela Uni’s School of Behavioural and Lifestyle Sciences Director, Prof Zoleka Soji and CIES Senior Manager International Relations, Vincent Monnier, who travelled from Switzerland.
The block week focused on interactive learning where students could draw on the experiences, knowledge, and skills of one another, as well of those of the facilitators. Students had to develop and present business proposals to the facilitators, acting as investors. The Inkamva Sport Marketing Agency was selected as the overall winners.
The second block week of lectures will be held from 5 to 10 December.
