National Pharmacovigilance Week celebrated

Aligarh: The ADR Monitoring Centre, JNMCH, AMU, celebrated the second “National Pharmacovigilance Week” by organising a series of events including a sensitization programme for patients in JNMCH and ZADC. CME Programme for faculty members and resident doctors was also organised, where experts delivered talks on various aspects of pharmacovigilance.

The Chief Guest, Dr Neeraj Tyagi (CMO, Aligarh) remarked: “The healthcare providers must be encouraged to report ADRs for better understanding of the risk associated with the use of medicines and to safeguard the health of the population.

Prof Rakesh Bhargava, Dean F/O Medicine, Principal and CMS, JNMCH said the continuous progress in medical and pharmaceutical sciences has made the availability of newer pharmaceutical products. Later he presented appreciation certificates to the senior and junior residents of the Department of Pharmacology.

Prof Haris M Khan, Medical Superintendent, JNMCH, added that the rapid detection and recording of adverse drug reactions is vital so that the hazards are identified promptly and appropriate regulatory action is taken.

Prof Waseem Rizvi, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, JNMC, appreciated the event.

Prof Farida Ahmad (Coordinator, AMC) said such sensitization programmes should be encouraged.

Dr Irfan Ahmad Khan (Deputy Coordinator), in his welcome address emphasised that ADR Monitoring Centre is a key pillar in effective monitoring of the safety related to drugs

Prof Shahzad F Haque (Department of Medicine), Prof Kamran Afzal (Department of Paediatrics, JNMCH) and Prof Mohammad Shameem (Department of TBRD) were felicitated for their continuous support towards AMC on the occasion. Dr Umair Shamshul Hoda (Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology), Dr Pratyakcha Rai (Department of TBRD) and Dr Shruti Bansal (Department of Radiotherapy) were also awarded for reporting maximum ADRs to the centre.

 Pharmacovigilance quiz for MBBS and BDS students and E-Poster competition was also held. In the quiz competition, Prashant Kumar Lodhi was declared winner while Faraz Hasan and Nosheen Neyazi were first and second runner-up respectively.

In the E-poster competition, Dr Vibhu Pandey was declared winner while Dr Hiramani Rabha and Dr Dheeraj PS were the first and second runner-up respectively.

Dr Aditya Vikram Singh conducted the proceedings and Dr Bushra Hasan Khan extended the vote of thanks.
