CUPB marks World Heart Day with a Poster Making Competition and hands-on training on CPR
Bathinda: To sensitize youngsters about the increase in spread of heart diseases due to sedentary lifestyle and improper dietary habits, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), in association with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, organized Poster Making Competition and hands-on training on CPR to commemorate World Heart Day. This is part of the collaborative public outreach initiative supported by American Heart Association (AHA).
As a part of this programme, a Poster Making Competition was held at CUPB campus to raise awareness on how to maintain healthy heart. Around 35 students from 11 different departments participated in this competition and presented thought-provoking posters. The best three posters were given certificates of appreciation.
Apart from this, a hands-on training on CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) was organized under the leadership of Prof. Rakesh Kakkar, Department of Family Health and Community Medicine, AIIMS, Bathinda, who visited CUPB campus with his team of physicians and nursing staff. More than 100 participants, including 25 security personnel, university nursing staff, faculties, non-teaching staff and students, took part in the hands-on training session led by Prof. Kakkar and his team.
Dr. Sabyasachi Senapati, Human Geneticist and Program coordinator from Central University of Punjab stated that CPR is an emergency procedure and mass training sessions on CPR will help in reducing sudden death due to cardiac arrest.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari congratulated the organizers for successful execution of this outreach programme. Towards the end of programme, Organizing Secretary of the event Dr. Shashank Kumar (from the Department of Biochemistry) thanked the delegates from AIIMS, Bathinda for providing necessary support during the programme.
