Ural Federal University: UrFU Takes Second Place Among Russian University Websites

According to the 2022 results, the English-language version of the UrFU website is ranked second (98 points out of 108) in the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) rating “Electronic Internationalization: English-Language Internet Resources of Russian Universities”. Over the year, the university has significantly improved its numbers, scoring 15 points, and came very close to first place, from which it is only 1 point away. This was reported by RIAC representatives during the seminar “E-Internationalization: Opportunities for the Development of International Activities of Universities in the New Environment”, which took place at UrFU on September 23. In 2022, the English versions of websites of 68 leading Russian universities were evaluated.

“Over the past 10 years, the Russian International Affairs Council has been actively studying and supporting the effective work of Russian universities in the English-language part of the Internet in order to improve the international positioning of Russian higher education. This report is the seventh analytical material devoted to the issues of the Internet promotion of Russian universities in international markets and the improvement of the image of Russian higher education in the world,” said Elena Karpinskaya, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs.

The discussion, held at the Ural Federal University, was attended by representatives of RIAC and Russian universities both in person and via distance format. The country’s leading experts in the field of international digital marketing in higher education shared their experience in the electronic internationalization of their universities.

All your recommendations are taken into account by the staff of the International Marketing Office of the University in their strategic and daily work with Internet resources and contribute to the successful development of UrFU international activities,” said Victor Koksharov, Rector of the Ural Federal University, in his welcoming speech.

Evgenia Saburova, Head of the International Marketing Office, presented a report on the Ural Federal University’s work in the field of international online promotion.

“In its e-internationalization policy, UrFU follows the strategy of diversifying international promotion channels and maximizing its presence in foreign markets. We use international social networks, as well as national ones as in case of China; we participate in international educational online exhibitions and publish in foreign electronic media. Also, our foreign students and alumni, who post about UrFU and life in Russia on their personal pages in social networks for users in their home countries, contribute to the successful promotion of the university in the world,” commented Evgenia Saburova.
