SPbPU: The SPbPU CEI team won in the Building Information Modeling category at the 2nd International Civil Engineering Championship
The 2nd International Civil Engineering Championship ended in Kazan. More than 40 teams from Russia and foreign countries took part in it. Students and professionals competed in three disciplines: industrial construction, design of pharmacy facilities and construction project management. The team of the Civil Engineering Institute of SPbPU became the absolute winner in the «Building Information Modeling» category.
Over 20 thousand people took part in the competition, but only 800 participants, those who performed best, came to the capital of Tatarstan to participate in the final. For three days, hard struggle for the victory was conducted in 20 nominations, including pricing and estimating, architectural and construction design, informational modeling of buildings, electrical installation of lighting networks and electrical equipment and a number of others. Student League was added to the general competition only this year. It included competitions in 16 practice-oriented and engineering nominations. The winners were able to prove that the industry employs or will soon employ well-qualified professionals. For many it was the first win at such a prestigious competition.

The captain of the team from Polytechnic University Yegor Melekhin admits that he is not going to stop at what has been achieved, and plans to constantly learn something new and share it with others. That, he says, is what motivates him to go to postgraduate school. Another team member, Arina Mokhireva, also plans to continue developing BIM technologies in the future, and what she liked most of all during the championship was working with the team, true professionals in their field.
