TU Delft: TU Delft on the 70st place in THE World Ranking

TU Delft takes 70st position on the 2021 Times Higher Education World Reputation Ranking published today. As far as Dutch universities are concerned, TU Delft has ended in 4th position.

The rise of five places on the global list is mainly due to a significantly higher score on Research reputation and, to a lesser extent, a higher score on Teaching reputation. These scores are based on the annual Academic Reputation Survey, conducted by THE, in which respondents nominate universities that they believe excel in research and teaching.

Leading rankings
The THE-ranking is one of the leading university rankings in the world. Every ranking has different characteristics and uses a slightly different composition of indicators. World University Rankings like this one compare all universities, both general and technical. For TU Delft, the more focused rankings such as the Engineering & Technology rankings and subject rankings, are more relevant. Each ranking is composed differently and has its own advantages and limitations. Good listings in leading rankings can help attract top international talent. University rankings are widely consulted by international students and scholars wishing to study or work abroad.

Competition in the rankings has become increasingly fierce in recent years given the rise of universities in Southeast Asia and the huge investments in education and science in other Western countries, mainly private in the US and public in Europe. In addition, more and more new universities are also entering the rankings.

1800 universities
The Times Higher Education ranking has been published since 2010. The indicators THE uses for this ranking are teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and industry income (2.5%). This year, data from about 1800 universities were used to compile the ranking
