The Competition Commission of India, CCI imposed more than 936 crore rupees penalty on Google for anti-competitive practices in relation to its Play Store policies. The Commission also directed Google to modify its conduct within a defined timeline.
The CCI said that based on an assessment, the department found Google to be dominant in the markets for licensable Operating System for smart mobile devices and market for app stores for Android smart mobile Operating System in the country.
The CCI has also examined the allegations of exclusion of rival UPI apps as effective payment options on Play Store. The CCI found that Google Pay has been integrated with intent flow methodology whereas other UPI apps can be used through collect flow methodology.
