McMaster University: McMaster’s Innovation Showcase returns in-person this November
Presented by the McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO), the university’s annual Innovation Showcase is returning to McMaster Innovation Park on November 10th, 2022.
The 12th annual Innovation Showcase will be bigger and better than ever. Drawing on this year’s theme — Reconnect, Renew and Revitalize — the event will highlight McMaster’s groundbreaking research, technologies and start-up companies, and give attendees an opportunity to network with members of Hamilton’s innovation community.
Business innovator and McMaster graduate Lisa Mattam will kick off the event with a keynote address. Mattam is the founder and CEO of Sahajan, a wellness and beauty brand featured in magazines like Vogue and Elle, and founder of AccelerateHER, an early-stage accelerator program that provides women entrepreneurs with the tools they need to grow their business. In 2009, Mattam was named one of the top ten emerging women entrepreneurs in Canada by Profit Magazine.
The Showcase will also feature several panel discussions. Attendees will hear first-hand from industry and government leaders on tips and resources for researchers embarking on their commercialization journey and seeking to build successful partnerships.
In addition, McMaster researchers and start-up leaders will discuss their innovative technologies and share how they transformed their research into thriving businesses. Two of these start-ups — Synmedix and Insight Medbotics — recently secured investment from the first round of the McMaster Seed Fund competition. The Showcase will also feature several “start-ups to watch” who have secured substantial investment or partnerships over the last year, including Elarex, Mesomat and Enedym.
The event will wrap up with an awards ceremony to celebrate the McMaster Innovator of the Year and the McMaster Lifetime Innovator, as well as the audience-voted poster competition winners.
The Innovation Showcase is a perfect opportunity to celebrate McMaster’s research community, says Gay Yuyitung, executive director of MILO.
“We are so excited to be in-person for this year’s Innovation Showcase. McMaster is home to some incredible minds in research and innovation and this event will give students, researchers, industry and government leaders a chance to renew and revitalize their research partnerships,” she says.
