San Diego State Athletics proudly announces the launch of the Women’s Fund to benefit the 12 Aztec women’s sports programs in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX legislation.

“We are excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX by launching the women’s fund at San Diego State,” Director of Athletics John David Wicker said. “This fund will help our female student-athletes continue to compete for championships and excel in the classroom, giving them the resources for greater success in the future.”

The SDSU Athletics Women’s Fund aims to raise awareness and financial support to achieve and maintain excellence across all Aztec women’s programs. In addition, the creation of this fund will enhance the academic and athletic resources for our female student-athletes and will assist with scholarship support, facility updates, and other annual program needs.

“Along with the many SDSU activities to honor the 50th anniversary of Title IX, this is an opportunity for the SDSU community to invest in the future of women’s athletics,” Executive Associate Athletic Director Jenny Bramer said. “I’m thrilled by the athletic department’s commitment to create a fund that will spur additional resources to support equity and the success of our women’s sport student-athletes.”

San Diego State’s women’s sports programs and student-athletes are no strangers to success. In the past calendar year alone, four women’s sports captured Mountain West Conference championships, including softball, track and field, women’s tennis and swimming and diving. Additionally, the Aztec softball team was consistently ranked in the top 25 throughout the 2022 campaign and advanced to the NCAA Tempe Regional final in Arizona, while the track and field squad had multiple student-athletes earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The SDSU women’s tennis program also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013, while the swimming and diving team had a pair of athletes compete at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.

Please consider making a gift to the San Diego State Women’s Fund to celebrate our female student-athletes’ accomplishments and to position the Aztecs for even greater success in women’s sports in the years ahead. For more information, visit the Women’s Fund webpage and make a gift today.

ABOUT TITLE IX

Passed on June 23, 1972, Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Title IX gives female athletes the right to equal opportunity in sports in educational institutions that receive federal funds, from elementary schools to colleges and universities.
