ITMO: U.S. News Names ITMO Top Russian University in Six Subject Areas
This Tuesday, October 25, the media company U.S. News & World Report published the latest versions of its and rankings of the world’s universities. In addition to entering the top 10 list of Russian universities in the general ranking, ITMO University is also included in ten subject-specific lists of top universities. In six of these rankings, the St. Petersburg-based university received the highest rating of all Russian institutions.
This year, the Best Global Universities Rankings has welcomed 250 new participating organizations and now includes 2,000 educational institutions from 95 countries. This includes (23 in 2021). ITMO University is one of the top 10 Russian universities in the global overall ranking.
The subject rankings, too, have undergone changes: this year, there are four new subject areas – Artificial Intelligence, Education and Educational Research, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, and Water Resources – resulting in a total of 47.
Just as last year, ITMO is included on ten such subject rankings. This year, it holds the first place among Russian universities in six: (29th globally), (114th globally), (312nd globally), (163rd globally), (307th globally), and (174th globally); notably, ITMO is the only Russian university included in the latter ranking.
The Best Global Universities Rankings is produced by the American media company U.S. News & World Report. Published for almost 40 years, it has included non-US universities since 2014. The ranking methodology is based on 13 indicators, including publication activity, citation rate, and global and regional research reputation. Data for the ranking is provided by InCites, an online platform used to assess and compare scientific organizations and research using the Web of Science database.
