Orientation Programme at Women’s Polytechnic
Aligarh: Faculty members apprised new batch of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Women’s Polytechnic students about the syllabi and facilities—easing their transition into higher learning in the two-day Orientation Programme that began on November 7.
In the welcome address, Prof Altamash Siddiqui (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology) remarked: “The goal of an orientation programme is to set students on the appropriate course, make them feel accepted and at home and encourage them to put their best foot forward”.
“As you embark on a new journey at AMU, you will learn that a sense of camaraderie is a part of what makes this university special. You will make friends here who will be a part of your life for a very long time”, he told the new students.
Addressing the new students, Prof M Shafey Kidwai (Department of Mass Communication) spoke on the life and works of AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
“Sir Syed was deeply invested in the idea of India and explored new frontiers of rationalism in the wide-ranging corpus of his writings on religion, ethics, polity, education, patriotism, nationalism, human rights, Western civilization, and modern sciences. After his England visit, Sir Syed realised the stature of educated women in society and felt the need for the modern and scientific education for girls as that for boys in India”, he stressed.
Dr Salma Shaheen (Principal, University Women’s Polytechnic) pointed out: “Orientation programmes play a vital role in student’s transition to a university education system by familiarizing them with the campus environment. It also helps the students to have a clear view of what lies ahead and what can be achieved at the end of their courses”.
Prof Syed Ali Nawaz Zaidi (Deputy Proctor) and Dr Mujahaid Khan (Assistant DSW) spoke on the ‘Students’ Code of Conduct’.
Saad Hameed (Training and Placement Officer-General) pressed the need for personality development, enhancing communication skills and having a positive attitude along with the subject knowledge.
