Corrective steps taken in the hospitals should be visible –Medical Education secretary
Jaipur: Medical Education, Secretary, Shri Vaibhav Galriya said that changes after the corrective steps taken in the hospitals in Kota should be visible to patients and general public.
He took a meeting of managing committee of Kota Medical College, MBS Hospital and J K Lone Hospital, in which review of present arrangements and available resources was done. On this occasion, Divisional Commissioner Shri L N Soni, District Collector Shri Om Kasera, members of the medical team formed by the State government to investigate the death of newborns at J K Lone Hospital, Medical College principal Dr Vijay Sardana including superintendents and head of the department were present.
Shri Galriya told the hospital management to ensure that patients get complete treatment and benefits of the facilities provided the State government. He reviewed the available resources, personnel and problems of all the three hospitals. In the meeting, the proposed Nursery Ward and works of Central Oxygen Supply in J K Lone hospital was discussed. The members of the investigating committee have told that they would submit the report at the prescribed time.
Directions were given to the officers of all the three hospitals to make optimum use of available resources in the hospitals; to get audit of all equipments available in the hospitals based on which list of equipments in use and not in use will be made and a proposal will be sent to the Government for repair; the superintendent and head of the department will assess the requirements at the time of allotment of equipments; Public Works Department will make an estimate of repairable works including windows, ceiling and others in hospitals and necessary works in PICU and NICU in J K Lone hospital.
Other directions include family members of serious infants coming to J K Lone Hospital after being referred should be compulsorily counselled and will apprise them about the treatment and disease; to do mandatory documentation of serious patients; assessing the available nursing staff and based on demand in wards and availability, nursing staff can be outsourced for which a proposal has to be sent to the Government and a proposal will be sent to give charge of vacant posts of professor and associate professor to assistant.
Shri Galriya inspected the J K Lone Hospital and took information about the recent death of infants in the hospital. He said that recently 10 infants died in 48 hours at J K Lone Hospital and the State government has formed a team to investigate it which will submit its report in 48 hours. He said based on the report action will be taken if any carelessness is found.
The team formed to investigate the death of infants includes Medical College Jaipur additional principal Dr Amarjeet Mehta, Medical College Jaipur senior paediatrician Dr Rambabu Sharma and Medical Education department OSD Dr Sunil Bhatnagar.
The decisions taken include pipeline will be laid for oxygen supply in NICU; head of the department of paediatric ward will permanently sit at J K Lone Hospital; frequency of taking samples for investigation from NICU will be increased and talent trained staff at wards in the hospital will not be unnecessarily changed.
