Saint-Gobain India signs MoU with IIM Ahmedabad to conduct a study for Creating Biodiversity Habitat at IIM Ahmedabad
Mumbai – Saint-Gobain India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) to conduct a study for creating biodiversity habitats at the IIMA campus. The MoU has been facilitated with the support of the IIMA Endowment Fund (IIMAEF), which is the dedicated philanthropic and fundraising arm for all donations to IIMA. The MoU aims to support conducting a baseline assessment study for determining the overall strategic design to enhance the ecological biodiversity at IIMA.
The study will help identify phased interventions over a period that will eventually help improve the density of bird biodiversity and tree cover through the use of indigenous species, reinforcement of indigenous floral structure, enhancement of water retention capacity through passive measures, increase in soil permeability and improvement in air quality within the campus. This study will help map the existing biodiversity clusters in and around IIMA Campus, including open spaces, which can potentially be developed for the said objective. This MoU is a step in the right direction as industry-academia collaborate for a better future for our environment.
Speaking on occasion, Mr. P. Padmakumar, Executive Director, HR, and Head CSR, Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Saint-Gobain has always been ahead of its times in terms of environmental protection by establishing Urban Forest in some of its large manufacturing entities. Having said that, forests alone do not constitute biodiversity. For a deeper understanding and to contribute and learn, we at Saint-Gobain, have entered an MOU with IIMA for designing and detailing the biodiversity habitat at the campus. We hope this will go a long way in meeting the proposed outcomes of the study while achieving our purpose of ‘Making the world a better home.
