KIIT College of Engineering organized a three day international conference “SPECOM-2022” in hybrid mode. The conference was done in collaboration with many National and International academic, research and professional societies like IIT Dharwad, IGDTUW, KLU, SPCRAS and others. The conference witnessed keynote speakers Hema A. Murthy (Department of CSE, IIT, Madras Tamil Nadu, India), Shrikanth (Shri) Narayanan (University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, USA), and Gerard Bailly (GIPSA-Lab, CNRS, Grenoble-Alpes Univ. INP Grenoble, France).

SPECOM is a multidisciplinary scientific event that draws scientists, linguists, and engineers that study in the fields of speech science, speech technology, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction. The conference encouraged study and practical applications of all the above-mentioned themes.

During the event, Researchers, academicians, and industrialists had the chance to communicate, broaden their knowledge, and exchange information. They put emphasis on most recent advancements in their disciplines. This session showcased some of the developments in behavioural machine intelligence, which uses technology and algorithms to interpret typical, aberrant, and distressed human behaviour quantitatively and objectively.

While interacting during the conference, Dr. Shyam S Agrawal, Director-General of KIIT College of engineering, said, “The majority of Indians struggle with English but are proficient in their own language. Thus, speech interfaces become crucial for integrating the socially outcast into society. For the past 18 years, KIIT has been contributing in investigating ways to overcome the language barrier and will keep doing so. Soon, we’ll also release an app for it.”

The conference also involved contribution of papers and presentation of State-of-the-art lectures, covering these subjects by 120 distinguished scientists from Russia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, and other European and Asian nations. The proceedings of the peer reviewed papers were published by Springer Nature and Scopus indexed international publication.
