Celebration of Antibiotic Awareness Week
Aligarh : The Centre for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, AMU in collaboration with Cultural Education Centre (CEC), organised an Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness week on “Antimicrobial Resistance: A Global Health Threat” Under DBT-sanctioned project titled, “Exploring Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by OMICS (Bioinformatics, Genomics, and Proteomics)-BIC Approaches.
A documentary was displayed on the theme. Posters, Paintings and Slogans were invited for open competition and exhibition of posters and painting was also organized at CEC.
The five days celebration was concluded by the Prize distribution ceremony. Prof S Imtiaz Hasnain, Chairman Innovation Council was the Chief Guest of the session who encouraged students to come up with innovative ideas for incubation and entrepreneurship.
Prof Mohammad Afzal (Dean Faculty of Life Sciences) as Guest of honour emphasised the importance of awareness on antibiotics and crises which are being faced by healthcare workers due to antibiotic resistance.
Prof Asad U Khan, Convener of the event in his welcome remark, said that the need of this awareness programme as one of the mandates of WHO and highlighted the potency of crises based on his own research and others’ data. He has mentioned that 700,000 people are dying every year due to this problem globally.
Prof FS Sheerani, Coordinator CEC was Co-organizer of the event and expressed his views on this event as one of the most successful events to spread awareness of the topic which is utmost important for today’s world.
Three cash prizes I, II and III for posters and painting competition and one best prize for slogan were instituted. A four member jury evaluated the posters/slogans for the prizes. Dr Yasir Bashir of Biotechnology coordinated the competition event in CEC. First prize went jointly to two M.Sc students of Biotechnology while second prize begged by a Ph.D student of Zoology department. Third prize again shared by students from Agriculture Microbiology and Biotechnology, whereas, best prize on slogan was bestowed upon M.Sc student of Biotechnology.
Prof Waseem A Siddiqui paid a vote of thanks and the programme was compared by Ms Ayesha Z Beg of Biotechnology unit. Faculty members of different departments were also present in the programme.
