Abertay University’s students, staff, alumni and partners celebrated a night of success at the Scottish Cyber Awards.

Abertay cyberQuarter, the new centre for research, development, innovation and collaboration in cybersecurity, was awarded Best Cyber Start-Up of the Year at the glittering ceremony hosted by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre.

There was further success for Abertay cyberQuarter Business Development Manager, Cheryl Torano and Ethical Hacking lecturer Jamie O’Hare, who were runners up in the categories for Outstanding Woman in Cyber and Cyber Educator.

Abertay partners, Salute My Job, who work with the University to provide cyber security training opportunities for veterans took the prize for Best Cyber Education Programme, while Abertay cyberQuarter partner Robert Dewar of Dewar Cyber Consulting was runner up in the International Contribution category.

A strong contingent of more than 25 alumni, students and staff represented Abertay’s Division of Cybersecurity at the event in Edinburgh, underlining the strength of the graduate talent pipeline flowing from the University into the cyber industry.

Abertay Principal, Professor Liz Bacon said: “This incredible result really shows the strength we have here at Abertay, both as a collective and at an individual level.

“I’m delighted to see our new home for Scottish cybersecurity, Abertay cyberQuarter, recognised at such an early stage and look forward to the many exciting opportunities the centre will bring for partnership working between industry, academia and our students.”
