Indian Myeloma Congress 2020 organised by NIMS
Hyderabad: 3rd Indian Myeloma Congress 2020 has been held at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, from 10-12 of January 2020. In this conference, updates in the diagnosis and management of multiple myeloma ( a type of blood cancer) have been discussed. More than 270 doctors from all over India and as well as the USA has attended.
Morning awareness walk followed by patient awareness program on myeloma disease conducted by the organizing committee. More than 100 myeloma patients and international and national doctors participated. Questions from the patients were clarified by the doctors.
During the inaugural session, NIMS Director Dr K.Manohar attended as chief guest. Dr K Manohar said infrastructure, diagnostic services, PET scan has been updated in the hospital. Now patients can avail bone marrow transplant services which cost more than 10 lac rupees will be done free of cost in the NIMS under the state-sponsored Arogya Sree program and Telangana government is one providing these services especially to the poor patients which are not available in many states of India.
Indian Myeloma academic group (IMAGE) president Dr Pankaj Malhotra said- Collaboration with international and national doctors will lead to better management of myeloma patients and will be continuing such activities in the future as well.
IMAGE secretory Dr Uday said- IMAGE has launched a mobile application named “care4myeloma” for the patients and as well as doctors and requested to utilize the services. This app serves in many Indian Indian languages including Telugu.
NIMS, Medical Oncology Head Dr Sadashivudu said- 20 years back these myeloma disease affected patients would die within 2- years and with the recent advances these patients living more than 10 years. He suggested utilizing the services providing in the medical oncology department NIMS. Chemotherapy as well as bone marrow transplantation services being done in the medical oncology department for multiple myeloma.
