Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Narendra Singh Tomar jointly release data products of RISAT-1A for user community
Atomic Energy and Space Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today jointly released the data products and services of Radar Imaging Satellite, RISAT-1A for the user community in New Delhi. RISAT-1A offers Revolutionary Radar Images which is high-end, strategic technology mainly used for defence, but from now onwards it will be widely utilized in the Agriculture Sector.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Singh said, space satellites herald the Agritech revolution and agritech start-ups which is going to mark a major next breakthrough for the agriculture sector after the Green revolution. He said, the trinity of Geospatial Systems, Drone Policy, and unlocked space sector will be a game-changer for Indian Agriculture in both augmenting the farmers’ income and realizing the vision of the 5 trillion dollar economy.
On this occasion, an MoU was signed between the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Department of Space to develop the Krishi-Decision Support System, Krishi-DSS using geospatial technologies and related databases for enhancing evidence-based decision-making capability of all the stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
Addressing officials of both the Ministries, ISRO, and media personnel, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that a new dimension is being added to the field of agriculture through space science. He said that the agreement between the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Space will further strengthen the agriculture sector. The Minister said, if this knowledge reaches the farmers, their production and productivity will increase. He said, the quality of production will increase and export opportunities will also increase.
