Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has appreciated the Textile Department for prioritising Geographical Indication (GI) related weaving in the country and giving them an international platform through free trade agreements.
Speaking at inaugural event of Viraasat, a handloom sari festival to celebrate 75 handwoven saris of India, in sync with the country’s 75 years of independence in New Delhi, Ms Sitharaman underlined that programs like this also help in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five F vision – farm to fibre; fibre to factory; factory to fashion and fashion to foreign.
