Karen McAllister-Kenny says Brock University’s Recreation offerings are bigger and more robust than ever before.

The Director of Brock Recreation has witnessed the evolution of those offerings, and the facilities where they take place, since joining the University in the early 1980s.

“We now employ hundreds of students to help run our beautiful facilities and campus recreation programming,” she said. “Activities and access for Brock students, faculty, staff and the community are back to pre-pandemic levels, with the addition of the newly expanded Zone Fitness Centre, which has tripled the size of the fitness facility.”

To provide the University and its surrounding community with innovative and engaging experiences in sport and recreation, Brock Recreation has three available memberships, with a range of prices. These include:

Walker Courts and Track Membership — Includes use of a day locker, shower room, outdoor tennis courts, track, studios, turf field, and gymnasia for basketball, badminton, etc.
Walker Swim Membership — Includes use of a day locker, shower room, pool and aquatic fitness classes.
Walker All-Access Membership — Includes use of a day locker, shower room, The Zone fitness centre, pool, aquatic fitness classes, outdoor tennis courts, track, studios, turf field, gymnasia and Express Fit classes.
The award-winning expanded Zone Fitness Centre features 15,000 square feet of fitness space designed with clean, maintained equipment surrounded by natural light from an array of windows overlooking a courtyard.

The Zone also operates women’s only hours three times per week for those who identify as a woman.

The Walker Sports Complex boasts the largest swimming facility in Niagara, the Eleanor Misener Aquatic Centre, which is open to members of the community and free for Brock University students to use. The 50-metre Olympic-size pool provides room for numerous water activities as well as an on-deck whirlpool and dry sauna in the locker room.

Programs at the Aquatic Centre include swimming lessons, competitive programs, as well as leadership, first aid and CPR courses.

Additional fitness facilities at the University include a 200-metre indoor track for walking and running; gymnasia with open recreation times available for volleyball, basketball, badminton, cricket, parasport, boccia and studio time; and three locker rooms — universal, women and men — with day units or renting options available with a membership.

Parking is included in all three types of the membership fees for community and senior members (two-hour limit).
