UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has been named a Top Children’s Hospital for 2022 by The Leapfrog Group after meeting rigorous standards for safety and quality. Just 12 pediatric hospitals in the nation made the list, including four from California. Benioff Oakland Children’s is the only pediatric hospital honored in Northern California.

It is a testament to our clinicians and staff to be nationally recognized for their continued passion and commitment to their patients and their work.

“Providing the highest quality and safest care to our patients is our number one priority,” said Matt Cook, CEO of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals. “It is a testament to our clinicians and staff to be nationally recognized for their continued passion and commitment to their patients and their work.”

More than 2,200 hospitals were considered for this year’s award. Only 5% were selected as “Top Hospitals” in four categories: pediatric, general, rural and teaching. Leapfrog’s rankings are based on hospitals’ performance across many areas, including putting in place systems to reduce infection rates, ensure safety practices for surgery and maternity care, and prevent medication errors.

“We are honored to recognize UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland as a Top Hospital this year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has demonstrated that it truly puts patients first. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national health care nonprofit that has sponsored the Top Hospitals awards for more than a decade. The rankings are based on the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey – a national peer review survey that assesses hospitals’ performance on national standards of patient safety, quality, efficiency and management that prevent errors.
